CAN-Bus in Practice

Sign up for the course See the program

Not textbook theory, but what we do in the workshop every day: how to read frames, how to find data when there's no documentation, how to wake a "dead" device, how to translate data between the buses of different cars — and finally how to build your own emulator with AI helping you.

Included in the course: a Smart CAN Tool 3 PRO licence (worth 1,299 zł). To start you only need a CANable 1.0 interface.

After this course

What you'll learn

Read and understand

Offset, length, high and low bytes, PIDs and DBC databases. You'll see how a changing byte in a frame becomes RPM on the cluster — and how to find that byte with no documentation at all.

Start up and convert

How to "wake" a working device that doesn't respond. How to move data between IDs and bytes when Mercedes speaks differently from the rest. What a CAN-Gateway does and why, without it, half the car doesn't work after a swap.

Build your own tools

Checksums and counters so the receiver doesn't ignore your frames. A test device on Arduino and our software. Finally — a complete emulator built from start to finish with AI.

Programme

11 lessons, from frame to emulator

Every lesson solves one specific workshop problem. Order matters — each builds on the previous.

  1. How to correctly read the contents of a CAN-Bus frame — offset, message length, high and low bytes, the numerology.
  2. From byte to physical value — you have a frame, you see something change, but how does it relate to what you see on the cluster? About PIDs and DBC databases.
  3. How I find CAN-Bus data when there's no documentation — a concrete way of working, step by step.
  4. A working device, but no response on CAN — you know it works 100%, but not how to start it. How I work with the Bomber.
  5. Mercedes and the differences in the CAN-Bus — converting data between IDs and bytes in practice, without going into microcontroller programming.
  6. Artificial intelligence, your best friend — which tools help me in daily work, how to use them and what they cost.
  7. We build a test device for sending CAN-Bus data — on my Windows software and Arduino.
  8. You send frames and the receiver ignores them — about checksums and data counters.
  9. 2–3 CAN-Bus lines in a car? The CAN-Gateway — what it is, when it's essential and why, without it, many things don't work after an engine swap.
  10. CAN-Bus data filtering in swaps — can data interfere with each other and how to use a CAN-Gateway with filtering for it.
  11. Final project: an emulator from A to Z — you already know a great deal, we've talked for many hours. Time for a useful project: an emulator (program) built from start to finish with artificial intelligence, on hardware you already have.

Before you start

What you'll need

Hardware

A Windows computer and one CANable 1.0 interface — that's all. You buy it yourself — in the course we show which to pick and how to get it running. For the exercises any car or a controller on the bench is enough.

Software — included in the course

Every participant gets a free Smart CAN Tool 3 PRO licence (normally 1,299 zł): sniffing two buses, a MITM gateway, an ADC logger. You work on the same tool we use to break down buses — and it stays yours after the course.

Enrolment

Price and enrolment

2 750 zł gross · 11 lessons · Smart CAN Tool 3 PRO licence included

Including a PRO licence worth 1,299 zł that stays yours for good — the course itself is really about 1,450 zł for 11 hands-on lessons. To start you only add a CANable 1.0 interface.

Enrollment and details — by e-mail.

Write to us and we'll reply with the next date, the course outline and payment details. If you have a specific project (a swap, a missing module), mention it — we'll pick examples to match your car.
