Hardware · CAN-Bridge series
A series of automotive electronics: CAN bridges linking components from different generations, data conversion between buses and turning analog signals into CAN bus. Each one grew out of a real swap project in our workshop — and each can be adapted to yours.
Eight units, several jobs: translate data between Mercedes generations, run a 7G-Tronic gearbox outside its home car, fit a manual instead of an automatic, switch ABS/ESP back on after a swap and bring an analog signal onto the bus.
A dedicated unit translating CAN data between an older engine and the modern Mercedes W204 / W207 / W212 body. It enables swapping OM611/612/613/646/647/648 and M112/M113 engines into cars after 2008 — with a correct cluster, start from the original ignition and automatic-gearbox operation.
A controller-bridge that lets you use the Mercedes 7G-Tronic gearbox (VGS / NAG2) in any vehicle — from analog signals or the donor CAN bus. It generates the full set of frames the VGS expects, handles gears, the P/N lock, kick-down and the selector. With a Windows app: live data, controller coding, reading and clearing faults.
A round screen tapped into the CAN bus of a Mercedes gearbox: it shows the P-R-N position and gear, the drive program, ATF and engine temperature, speed and RPM. Passive read-out, both CAN-Bus generations — 5G-Tronic (EGS52/EGS53) and 7G-Tronic (VGS/VGS2/VGS3).
Three Mercedes FBS3 immobilisers in one device — ECU, 7G-Tronic gearbox (VGS) and the ISM selector on a shared CAN, each one independent. Read FBS3 keys and configure from a PC app over a plain USB cable, with no separate interface.
In standalone and swap projects the 7G-Tronic (VGS) gearbox controller expects factory CAN frames from the ABS module — above all vehicle speed and the brake pedal signal. Without them the gearbox may misbehave or drop into limp-home. The Seaside Customs ABS Emulator faithfully emulates both signals, so the 722.9 runs correctly in standalone and swap projects — without the original ABS pump.
A universal bridge between the analog world and the bus: buttons, a resistor ladder (PRND selector, steering wheel), Hall sensors (speed, RPM) and NTC thermistors become ready values in CAN frames. Up to 11 messages, each with its own ID, interval, CRC-8 (SAE J1850 or custom), counters and parity. Configured from a PC app, stored in memory, exportable to .json.
A bridge for the W221 body (S-Class): it translates frames between an older engine controller and the modern body bus, generates the missing frames and adjusts counters, checksums and IDs — so the cluster, immobiliser and other modules see consistent communication. The car starts and drives like a factory one.
Reads the signal from a single VR-type ABS sensor and sends speed data over CAN matching the original Mercedes ABS/ESP module — simulating four wheels. It supplies the missing piece in 5G-Tronic (722.6) swaps: without a speed signal the EGS51/52/53 controller won't work correctly. Optional set: ABS ring on a bracket + VR sensor for the gearbox output.
An emulator of the automatic-gearbox controller and the PRND selector, with emulation of an additional vehicle-speed signal. It lets you fit a manual gearbox — for example for M112/M113 engines — so they run without limp-home, across the full RPM range and at factory power. No controller flashing required.
Its job is to switch the ABS/ESP system on in a Sprinter 906 after a swap and clear the dashboard warning lights. When is it used? Most often after swapping in an older engine whose ECU doesn't send all the required data over CAN bus. Tested with OM611, 612, 613, 646, 647, 648.
Tailored to the project
We tune frame mapping, filters, counters and checksums to the specific engine / gearbox / body combination. Questions about compatibility, integration or a custom configuration — tell us the car, the engine and the gearbox.
Write: garage@seasidecustoms.comBefore a bridge is built, we break down the donor's and recipient's bus in Smart CAN Tool 3 — recording, ID comparison, MITM, bench emulation. We teach the same method at the CAN-Bus in Practice training. Buying a bridge, you get the result of that work in a finished board.
Application
Seaside Customs Garage products are intended for motorsport, research-and-development and workshop use, in vehicles not admitted to public roads. They have no road homologation. Use on public roads is solely at the Buyer's risk and responsibility and may void homologation, insurance and warranty.
Tools for working with the immobiliser, keys and controller data are intended solely for lawful service use — on your own vehicle or one entrusted by its owner. Full terms are set out in the licence agreement supplied with the product.
